With support from the California Arts Council, the Medea Project is inaugurating THE MEDEA ACADEMY as the next step to develop the bridge between community members and formally incarcerate individuals.
|
This first phase of the Medea Academy focused on providing Creating Writing workshops online for women. Workshops continued every Thursday evening at 6pm through the Final Show on May 13, 2021.
Led by Lisa Frias and Fe Bongolon, inside San Francisco County Jail #2, by March 2020, the pandemic was official; and, like the rest of the country, we were sheltering! Along with other official sites, S.F. County Jail was in lockdown! Our ‘inside’ writing workshops were immediately closed! To finish the work, Angela Wilson, core Medea member, stepped up and gathered women from transitional housing, therapeutic communities, and halfway houses, and invited all recently released women.
Big love to SFSU Professor Alex Pappas for her very beautifully ‘reimagined’ History of Women in Classical Literature that informed this work! -- Rhodessa Jones.
